Technivorm MoccaMaster KBGV Batch Coffee Brewer
Brews up to 1.25 liters / 40 ounces / 10 cups at a time. Plenty for the family, the office, or anyone whose idea of “one cup” usually turns into four.
When it comes to batch brewers, its hard to name a better machine. The Moccamaster is certified by the Specialty Coffee Association to brew at the proper temperature with even water distribution for consistently great coffee. No frills necessary.
Handmade in the Netherlands, backed by a 5-year warranty, and designed to be repairable for life. The kind of product philosophy we can get behind.
A dedicated hotplate with its own heating element keeps your coffee at the proper serving temperature after brewing, so the second cup is ready, at the right temp, when you are.

Great Coffee, Ten Cups at a Time
Candy Apple Red Style
The Candy Apple Red Moccamaster KBGV by Technivorm is our pick for anyone who just wants to make a big pot of really good coffee without turning it into a science project. Moccamaster has been building these things by hand in the Netherlands for decades, and there’s a reason they’ve become something of a benchmark for batch brewers: they’re simple, reliable, repairable, and consistently make great coffee. Is it completely plastic-free? Nope. The water tank and filter basket are plastic, and we’d rather be upfront about that. But where it matters most, Moccamaster gets a lot right: a full copper heating element quickly brings the water to the proper brewing temperature, with borosilicate glass and stainless steel handling the hot water on its way to the coffee. It’s also SCA Certified, meaning the fundamentals of temperature, brew time, and extraction have been independently put to the test. More importantly, it’s incredibly easy to live with. Fill it up, add coffee, flip the switch, and a few minutes later you’ve got 1.25 liters / 40 ounces / 10 cups ready for the family, the office, or a table full of friends. A volume selector lets you brew a half or full carafe, the automatic drip-stop keeps things tidy, and the dedicated hotplate keeps the pot hot when everyone inevitably comes back for another cup. There are newer, smarter, and considerably more complicated ways to make a pot of coffee. But if the goal is simply a whole lot of consistently good coffee from a machine that can stick around for years, we don’t know of a better tool for the job.
When it’s time to make a whole lotta really good coffee around the Milton shop, this is what we use. The Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select is about as good as a batch brewer gets: handmade in the Netherlands, SCA Certified, and engineered to brew up to 1.25 liters / 40 ounces / 10 cups at the proper temperature with even water distribution. A dedicated hotplate keeps the pot ready for round two (or four), while its repairable design and 5-year warranty mean it’s built to stick around. Is it plastic-free? Nope. But the key ingredients are, and that’s what matters most: a full copper boiler, with borosilicate glass and stainless steel carrying the boiling water. Sure, the tank is plastic, and the filter sits in a plastic basket, but the right materials are used where they matter most. If you want a premium drip coffee maker that cranks out a full pot of consistently great coffee, the Moccamaster is the best batch brewer we’ve found.

Great Coffee Isn't Made By Accident
Temperature
Coffee needs consistently hot water to extract properly. Moccamaster brews between 196°F and 205°F, the ideal range for pulling flavor from your coffee without overdoing it.
Time
Too fast and you leave flavor behind. Too slow and things get bitter. MoccaMaster targets a 4–6 minute saturation time to properly extract the coffee before it reaches your cup.
Turbulence
This is really just a fancy word for getting all the coffee wet. As water flows through the grounds, it creates natural agitation that helps evenly saturate the coffee for a more consistent extraction.
Total Dissolved Solids (TDS)
Here’s where the coffee nerds start having fun. TDS helps measure how much of the good stuff in your ground coffee actually makes it into the water. Industry standards target an extraction yield of 18–22%, part of what the SCA uses to define its “Golden Cup” standard. Moccamaster is designed to hit that target brew after brew.
In less nerdy terms: the right temperature, for the right amount of time, evenly distributed through properly ground coffee. Get those things right and coffee tastes better. Moccamaster gets them right for you.
Batch Brewing 101
MoccaMaster Brewing Tips
How Should I Grind My Coffee?
Medium-coarse is the sweet spot, roughly the texture of coarse sand or sea salt. If you’re buying pre-ground coffee, ask for a medium-coarse grind. Most pre-ground coffee from the grocery store is a little too fine for a Moccamaster. If you’re grinding fresh, the Moccamaster grinder we carry makes this particularly easy and is designed to produce the right grind for drip coffee.
Does the Filter Really Matter?
Yep. We recommend MoccaMaster oxygen-whitened paper filters for the cleanest, crispest cup. Unbleached brown filters can introduce a slight cardboard taste, while reusable mesh filters can clog with coffee oils and slow the brew down. We’d stick with paper.
What Kind of Water Should I Use?
Easy rule: if it tastes good enough to drink, it’ll probably make good coffee. Fresh tap, filtered, or bottled water all work well. Avoid distilled or reverse-osmosis water. With the minerals removed, the water can become slightly acidic and gradually pull minerals from the brewer’s copper boiling element. Not ideal for a machine you bought because you want to keep it for the next couple decades.
How Often Should I Descale It?
Every 100 brews, or at least once every three months. Scale naturally builds up inside the boiling element over time and can affect water flow, brewing temperature, and ultimately the life of the machine. Our favorite way to remember? Buy the 100-pack of Moccamaster filters. When the box is empty, it’s time to descale.
A GREAT COFFEE MACHINE. GUARANTEED.
